There had been Wheatens in Holland before, in 1953 two Wheatens were imported from the Holmenocks kennel by Mrs. Bronckhorst-Hofmann. She bred two litters.
Mr. Whitty, Dr. Gerard Pierse and Mr. Matt Blake were very impressed with the working qualities of some Wheatens at the field days and decided they would work together to get the breed recognized.
August 1937 the Wheaten Terrier reached its recognition. March 17, 1938, on St. Patrick’s day show , they were on the show for the first time, but without competition.
